There are three main questions a individual asks about yeast infections when they find they have one , what is it, why did it happen and how do I deal with it . Here are those three questions answered !

What is Yeast Infection?

Yeast infections are more common in women than in men but they are not gender specific. It is important to see the infection, its symptoms, similar conditions and risks so that you do not ignore it. When dealing with candida early treatment is vital , it is not something that will go away if you ignore it for long enough. It is also preventable. It happens in moist and warm areas of the body and vaginal yeast infection comes with symptoms such as itching, burning, swelling, discharge and pain. Though it helps and is important to know the symptoms, remember there are other vaginal infections out there and they have similar symptoms, so for example itching does not mean it is a yeast infection for sure. A proper diagnosis from a doctor would be required?.

What causes a yeast infection

Also known as Candidiasis, a yeast infection is the consequence of the fungus called Candida albicans overgrowing. Amongst the causes of the overgrowth include pregnancy, diabetes, menopause, menstruation, long term use of antibiotics and or steroids, diet, lifestyle. These things cause a change in the pH or upset the proportion of the body which can trigger the fungus to grow too much. Antibiotics kill the good bacteria in your body that control the fungus’ growth.

How can it be treated?

There are oral and topical medications that can be both purchased and prescribed over the counter at a drug store . Diflucan and fluconazole for example. There are also natural remedies that are effective – such as garlic and yogurt that can be used both outwardly and internally.
